BoA Kwon - The Queen of Asia

Well, not exactly. I'm not talking about the snake, but rather the multi-cultural singer from Korea. Her full name is Boa Kwon, with her name, "BoA", standing for Beat of Angel. She is a 20 year old accomplished female singer who has won over thirty awards in Korea and Japan combined. Besides speaking Korean, she is also able to speak Japanese, conversational English, and a little Mandarin. BoA has released albums in both South Korea and Japan, making her an extremely popular cross-cultural idol of Asia. Her music and voice are both amazing. BoA even has the amazing ability to sing while she dances, without running out of breath. This factor allows BoA to perform exceptionally well at any concert.

BoA's path to stardom was not easy, having to go through rough training and preparation. She was born on November 5, 1986 in South Korea. When BoA turned eleven, she followed one of her brothers to a talent search held by SM Entertainment, Korea's biggest record label. When BoA tried out, SM became hugely interested in her talent and voice. Wanting to further develop her skills, SM had a talk with BoA's family to allow her to join SM. However, her parents strongly refused, saying that a career would interfere with BoA's studies since she was already receiving high grades at her school. But, after a bit of persuasion from SM and their daughter, her parents agreed to let her pursue a career in music, a choice which BoA was extremely interested in making. Therefore, SM immediately started training BoA in singing and dancing to prepare for her Korean debut.

BoA was only thirteen when she released her first Korean album on August 25, 2000. She received a lot of positive feedback on this first album and many people started to notice her as an idol. SM wanted the best for BoA, so they signed her up for Japan's biggest music company, Avex Trax. During 2001, BoA was sent to Japan to better solidify her Japanese skills. At this time, BoA was only allowed to speak and write in Japanese. Despite these lonely times, as she described it, she was able to master the Japanese language. BoA's hard work and determination to achieve her goals have made her a famous idol all throughout Asia. Once she entered the Japanese music industry, she released a variety of singles and albums throughout the years. Her two most famous Japanese albums, VALENTI and BEST OF SOUL sold over a million copies solely in Japan, making her rise to the height of stardom. In total, BoA has released over ten albums, three mini-albums, and over thirty singles in both Japan and South Korea. BoA is definitely well-loved from her fans.

I first heard of BoA from my sister who introduced me to an all-new anime, InuYasha. I was really interested in the animated series itself and loved the song BoA sang for the ending theme, "Every Heart." But, I wasn't very interested in her yet; instead, I thought of BoA as a normal J-pop singer from Asia. As time flew by, I began to download more songs by BoA and started researching her on the web whenever I had the chance. Eventually, my research paid off, making me fall in love with her as days passed. First, it was for the looks. Every guy would fall for a beautiful girl; you know it's the truth. However, I developed a love so strong for her, an obsession that respects her for all the wonderful accomplishments she had done. I admire her most for her determination and ability to never quit. Through those times that she cried over her manager's death, the time she fainted after her performance backstage, having to be rushed to the emergency room, and dancing even while she's sick, she has never let her fans down. For that, I have fallen in love with her. "Work hard towards your goals". That was her motto, and we should all do the same.
